Coaching Methodologies and techniques
NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP) - NLP is the study of how human beings make sense of their world. NLP is a powerful change management tool which is used to transform the way people think and behave. These tools can be beneficial to various situations within both an individual's personal and professional context. NLP change tools are based on the way a person's thought patterns and processes affect their internal and external language and the resultant concepts these hold. This affects behaviour and therefore behaviour can be changed by changing thought processes and patterns. This change in behaviour in turn can change emotional state. NLP approaches the change process from a holistic manner and is based on the Gestalt concept: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." This means that any change to any of the internal or external components will impact the entire system as well as other components comprising the whole.
STRESS BIOFEEDBACK TECHNIQUES - Biofeedback is a measure of the body's physiological response to emotionally upsetting and / or stressful situations which usually result in the "fight or flight" response (stress response). The stress biofeedback techniques are used to control this stress response by helping the individual to identify when this response is underway and providing the individual with calming techniques such as deep breathing, meditation or visualisation to calm their physiological arousal. When an individual gets to know his / her body and what causes the stress response, he / she can identify what to change. These techniques are beneficial in situations where anxiety, tension and general stress occurs. These techniques can also be useful in situations where anxiety is affecting behaviour e.g. public speaking / presentation skills.
HYPNOTHERAPY - Hypnosis is a social interaction in which the hypnotist provides suggestions to an individual in an altered state of consciousness (a state much like when you are watching TV in which you can remember what you are doing, have full control of what you are experiencing and are aware of the events going on around you) to enable an imaginative experience which involves changes in perception, thought processes and voluntary control of behaviour. Hypnosis is increasingly becoming recognised as an extremely effective tool to institute change of behaviour and thought processes when combined with other therapeutic mechanisms. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which other therapeutic interventions can be used to bring about effective behavioural change as well as change of thought patterns and in which healing and growth can occur. Hypnosis also provides a mechanism to enable stress relief.
